We’re still reeling after our memorial day weekend. Another amazing Strawberry Festival. This was one of the most emotionally intense festivals we’ve experienced. Spent a lot of time with close friends of our sweet friend Charlie Cutten who was killed by a careless driver a couple of months ago, just a few minutes from his home in La Honda. We had known him since our first Strawberry Fest back in ’96. We had a tradition of meeting him under a particular street light up on Hog Ranch road at 3am to jam and sing harmonies. He was an incredible musician with a wonderful spirit. We always referred to him as “Charlie the Elf.” Last fall when we left Strawberry we traded CD’s ( he finished recording his around the same time we finished ours.) We listened to each others music on the long drive home. His CD is all instrumental and it’s truly beautiful and soothing to listen to. So sad to lose such a friend. So grateful to have his music to comfort us.

At his memorial service in La Honda a few weeks ago we met several of his sweet friends who we got to know better and play music with last weekend. He’s still bringing new friends together and bringing more music into the world.

June 11th — A benefit for the Tucker Farm Center (at the Tucker Farm Center) between Calistoga and St. Helena at 1201 Tucker Summit Rd. and Highway 29. We’ll have Danny & Terry Ann with us and hope to get you dancing! Our friend John Estes, a great guitarist and singer will also play a set, featuring songs from his cool new CD ” Dancing Around The Banana Tree.”

June 12th — Tucker Farm — an afternoon show for the large local senior citizen crowd and anyone else who’d rather come in the afternoon. We’ll fill you in on times and ticket prices for these shows as the dates gets closer.

June 19th– private– another wedding!

We also have some dates coming up for the Summer Concert Series in Lyman Park in St. Helena. These dates aren’t confirmed yet but we’ll let you know about times and locations etc. for our whole schedule well in advance.
We’ve been getting a little airplay on public radio. Twice now we’ve turned on the radio at just the right moment to hear our own songs! Quite a thrill for the likes of us… some of our friends even happened to be listening at the same time and called to tell us, which made it even more fun!
Thanks to Jimmy Humble of KZYX and Robin Pressman of KRCB for helping us spread our music around. They both have great shows every weekend. Jimmy’s is called “Humble Pie” and it’s on from 9:00 am to 11:00am every Saturday at 90.7 FM (Mendocino County)  Robin’s show is called “Our Roots Are Showing” and it’s on every Saturday from 1:00 pm til 5:00 pm at 91.1 FM ( Santa Rosa.) Both stations stream live on the web.

Greetings friends, family & music lovers,

We want to stay in touch with all of you about our music. We’ve been playing some great private events and really having fun. We played a wedding reception at our local Tucker Farm Center yesterday and must have played 30 or 40 songs. We had Terry Ann playing fiddle and our old friend Dan Brunetti backing us up on guitar and vocals. Such a joy to see all those folks dancing and singing along.

On friday night we had the honor of opening the 2nd set of Stevie Coyle’s (of the Waybacks) great solo show at the Papillon cafe in Lafayette. A wonderful little concert series started by Charlotte Gibb, which benefits their local arts organizations. We’ll be playing there in June and will let you know when we have the date set.

You can buy our CD (or write a review if you’ve already got it) on our CDbaby page. They’re having kind of a contest this month. The top 100 best selling CD’s in February will be chosen to have one song put on a CDbaby compilation CD that will be sent out free with every order (5ooo copies) with contact info on each artist featured on the CD. We haven’t been selling too many CD’s on line yet so chances are slim of making it onto this promo CD, but it would be fun to try! So we’re reminding you all that if you have enjoyed our CD some of your friends might enjoy it too! Music makes a nice gift!

We’re playing at the Calistoga Bookstore again on Dec.12 at 7:30pm.

We’ll play songs from our CD and some from the next CD and a few traditional and non traditional Holiday songs. Terry Ann will be joining us on fiddle and perhaps we’ll be lucky enough to get some other guest musicians to join us. Hope to see some of you there. Hope you all had a warm cozy Thanksgiving with your loved ones. (Those of you in this country who celebrate Thanksgiving, that is! ) We hope the rest of you are warm & cozy and with loved ones too.

We’ve been playing lots of music with some incredible musicians, but not in any public venues since October when we had a great turn out and a wonderful evening at the Petaluma Cafe. We really appreciate Barbara Arhon’s efforts to support independent musicians with the Petaluma Folk Music Concert Series.

After celebrating Thanksgiving with family we spent the weekend with our kids at a good friends 60th birthday party in Ukiah, where we had the opportunity to jam all weekend with an incredible musician named Ollie Shearer, who came out from NY for the party, he plays vibes. It was a blast and quite an honor for us to play with this guy who’s been a professional musician since before we were born!

We’re finally updating our website & at least some of our songs will be here for people to listen to or download if you’d like. I sent a newsletter out to everyone on our mailing list this past weekend. I’m going to post it here, & in the future we’ll send out brief newsletters with our upcoming dates, & we’ll send a link to our website where there will be more extensive news about our music endeavors for anyone who wants to read it.

Hi folks!

Thanks to every one who made it to our first CD release party at the Calistoga Bookstore. We had a great turnout that night & every one seemed to enjoy themselves & get plenty to eat & drink. Great to see so many of our local Calistogans come out to support us & enjoy our music. Thanks so much to all of you who bought our CD (some of you even bought multiple copies!) & signed our growing mailing list.

We hope you’re all enjoying our songs.

Many thanks to Reece Baswell for providing us with a nice public venue to play music & sell our CD’s. His son Ryan worked that evening & the store was quite full. We really appreciated how hard he worked that Saturday night.

We also want to thank Charlotte Devorak & her son, Francis, for delivering 2 ice chests full of sodas & water which was very much appreciated on that warm night. Also thanks to George & Linda Kapros for helping us out with the good wine.

Last, but not least, we want to thank Hanna Manfredi, Our 16 year old friend who took time out of her Saturday night to sell CD’s for us while we were playing, in exchange for another guitar lesson from Michael.

All in all our first CD release party was a big success. Our friend & great violin player Terry Ann Gillette even helped us to get a few folks dancing towards the end of the evening. Those of you who know us, know we’re not generally a dance band…. but sometimes that fiddle helps get people moving!

We had a great time playing last weekend for the Art Guild at the Calistoga Micro Brew & Art Festival at the fairgrounds. Our friend & great dobro player Jimmy Bunch came with his family from Chico to join us for that event & a private birthday party that night where we had the opportunity to open for one of our musical heroes & friend, Darryl Purpose. We have a couple of public events coming up that we hope to see some of you at. —

On Oct.11th we’re playing in Calistoga from around 12:15 to 1:30 or so at the Calistoga Art Guilds celebration at the Logvy property.This will be a great event with all kinds of wonderful art demonstrations, good food & drink, & a chance to tour the proposed future site of the Calistoga Community Art Center. Come watch the kids paint their principal!! There wiil be a silent auction, to raise money to acquire an abandoned building on the Logvy property, & make the necessary improvements. We’re donating our time & some of the proceeds of any CD’s we might sell that day. After we play, at 2:00 the Taiko Drummers from Sonoma County will be performing traditional Japanese Drumming. Admission to this event is free. Hope to see you there!

On Saturday, Oct. 18th we’re playing at 7:30, at the Petaluma Coffee Cafe. This is a great venue where a woman named Barbara Arhon has started putting on a series of Petaluma Folk Music Concerts. (You can find out more at www.geocities.com/petalumafolk/concerts)—-We’ve seen some great shows there. A Singer/Songwriter named Larry Potts will open for us with a short set, & then our good friend & award winning singer/songwriter Christopher Smith (Find out more about him atwww.ChristopherSmithMusic.com) will play a few of his wonderful songs, some of which we’ll back him up on, then he’ll be backing us up on a few of our songs. Barbara has asked us to do a long set (or perhaps 2 sets ) to play the songs from our CD along with some new ones that”ll be on our next CD. We hope to have Terry Ann joining us with her wonderful violin, & hopefully Doug Harman with his beautiful cello.

We got home late last night after 4 days of music.The Strawberry festival is like coming home for us. During the day we tend to dance in the meadow, ride bikes, swim, eat, socialize & generally relax. We stay up almost all night every night jamming. We sold & traded a couple dozen CD’s, & gave a lot more away. We came home with a lot of great new music… people whose web sites we’ll eventually have links to.

Our upcoming gigs are:

Sept. 20th

7:00 to 9:00 — A CD release party at the Calistoga Bookstore –free admission

Sept.27th

12:00 to 3:00 at the Micro Brew & Art Fest at the Calistoga Fairgrounds —( I’ll post more info about this when I have it. )

We hope to have Terry Ann playing fiddle with us at all 3 of these events, & Doug Harman will try to join us if he’s not booked elsewhere. We’ll keep you posted about any other venues that are open to the public. We tend to play more private events than public so far. We’re available for weddings & parties, & hope to start playing at house concerts.

This weekend, at the Strawberry Festival, we’ll be playing at Camp Remember & some of our neighboring campsites off & on throughout the weekend. Our CD is called “Beginner’s Luck.” We were fortunate enough to have some great musicians play with us on our album. Three of them will be camping with us at Strawberry. Christopher Smith, a long time friend & campmate of ours at Camp Remember, plays some mandolin & a little banjo. Jimmy Bunch, another campmate of ours, plays dobro.Terry Ann Gillette, plays the violin & will be coming to Strawberry for her 1st time.We’re looking forward to playing with them all over the next 4 days.

We also have Doug Harman playing Cello on the CD. Unfortunately he won’t be with us this weekend. But we hope to be playing with him in the near future.

We haven’t got our website together yet, but wanted to get something up quickly in case anyone who sees our web address on the CD actually tries to go to our website. So obviously this is under construction, with not much to see yet. We’ll try to keep you posted when we’re playing anywhere. We’ll also have links to other information we’d like to share.
